Audi Unveils Assembly Process For New All-Electric Audi E-Tron GT
Audi has yet to produce all-electric vehicles in Germany. The start of production of the E-Tron GT at the Neckarsulm plant marks the first time a four-ring car of this brand has been assembled at home.

The final production version of the electric car, which will go on sale in spring 2021, hasn't even debuted yet, but Audi has announced that production has already begun. The assembly lines at Audi at the Bollinger Hofe sports car plant are carbon-free thanks to the use of "eco-electricity" and heat from regenerative sources.

To cope with the complex assembly process in a production environment, Audi has created a dual-process assembly line where the body passes the conveyor twice. The body shop assembly line is about 85 percent automated, with ten stations with 34 robots interacting between human input stations.

The external and internal components of the body are connected in one line, and at the same station, humans and a robot work simultaneously on the assembly of the e-tron GT.

“The manufacturing process for assembling the Audi e-Tron GT at Böllinger Höfe is as unique as the car itself. No four-ring car has ever gotten ready for series production so quickly.

As electric and the leader in Audi's product portfolio, the e-tron GT is also ideal for the Neckarsulm plant, especially for the Böllinger Höfe sports car plant, ”says the director Helmut Stettner plant.
